Jim Wright was nominated to serve on the Atlanta Citizen Review Board (ARCB) by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office. He received City Council confirmation December 2, 2024, to serve for a term of three (3) years.
Jim Wright has over four decades of professional experience in human resources and labor relations. He began his career at AT&T as a management trainee and unit manager, followed by progressively senior roles at Weyerhaeuser, Georgia-Pacific Inc., and Bowater Incorporated, where he retired as Senior Vice President of Human Resources in 2010. His leadership encompassed a wide range of HR functions, including labor relations, employee benefits, safety, recruiting, and diversity initiatives across operations in the U.S., Canada, and South Korea.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas and pursued graduate studies at the University of Oregon’s Institute of Industrial and Labor Relations.
Post-retirement, Jim served as the Mayor of Tryon, NC, from 2012 to 2014, and has held leadership roles in community organizations such as the Tryon Rotary Club and Tryon Fine Arts Center. He is also an active member of the Old Fourth Ward Park Conservancy and the Old Fourth Ward Neighborhood Association in Atlanta.
In addition to his civic involvement, Jim is an endurance car racing driver, motorcycle enthusiast, and pottery artist, blending creativity and adventure in his personal pursuits.
